A driver’s maniacal, high-speed beach joy ride turned chaotic when he flipped his 4×4 SUV before being launched out of the side window into the water as the car came to rest on its side.
A blue-and-white Toyota FJ Cruiser was slowly driving down alongside the water’s edge of Abu Hasaniya Public Beach near Kuwait City, Kuwait before disaster struck, according to Carscoops.com.
The driver, a 34-year-old man, then suddenly puts the pedal to the medal as the car gains speed, driving in the water before seemingly losing control as the SUV spins out, video posted to YouTube captured.
As the driver loses control of the vehicle, it swerves back to the water as momentum causes the car to violently flip over several times.
The man, who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, was aggressively ejected out of the car, launching him approximately 16 feet into the air as he did several flips on his own before landing in the shallow waters of the Persian Gulf.
He returned to the shore as several people raced to his aid.
The driver escaped the crash with only minor injuries, but the car was not so lucky.
Local fire services were called to the public beach to pull the car out of the water, before officials at the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate seized the vehicle, according to the US Sun.
It was not clear if any charges would be filed against the driver for the crash.
The driver’s careless stunt angered local residents, calling his action childlike.
“He didn’t have his safety belt on, it’s like giving a kid a knife as a toy,” one person commented according to the outlet.
“LOL the idiot is lucky he survived,” another said on social media.
“Nothing like testing that 4×4 capability when you don’t have a clue as to what you’re doing.”
“A high degree of difficulty and good form in transition, but points deducted for the splash on entry.”
“That’s what you get for showing off with no skill.”
Luckily for the driver, there were only a handful of people scattered around the beach, unlike a similar stunt in Colorado that left five thrillseekers injured.
Marisol Wentling was charged with reckless driving before being released on bond.
