Officials: Attorney general investigating fatal wrong-way Southern State crash; victim identified

News 12 has not been given an exact reason as to why the AG is investigating, but criteria for an attorney general investigation could pertain to a police officer or correction officer, either on or off-duty

 

 
The state Attorney General’s Office is investigating a crash on the Southern State Parkway in Islip on Tuesday at approximately 10:30 p.m. that left one person dead.
State police say a wrong-way driver was heading west in the eastbound lanes of the Southern State before their vehicle slammed into a motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist was ejected and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. He has been identified by police as 42-year-old Hugo Cajamarca, of Patchogue.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was taken to a hospital with minor injuries but has not been identified.
News 12 has not been given an exact reason as to why the AG is investigating, but criteria for an attorney general investigation is as follows:
“The Office of Special Investigation (OSI) has investigative authority and criminal jurisdiction when an officer, as defined, has caused a death, or when there is a question whether an officer has caused a death.”
That could pertain to a police officer or correction officer, either on or off-duty.
There is no word if any charges are being filed.
