HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – A man was hit with a list of charges after he sped on Interstate 91 in Hartford, then fled from state police.
Troopers said they clocked 19-year-old Tamir Skyers of Hartford at 125 mph.
They had been conducting speed enforcement on I-91 north in the area of exit 29 on Thursday.
Around 12:10 p.m., a trooper spotted a black Acura TLX sedan headed north at a high rate of speed.
The trooper reported clocking the speed of the Acura by speedometer and observed speeds of 125 mph and above.
The trooper tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver did not pull over and accelerated. The driver also reportedly made several unsafe lane changes where he used the shoulder and gore areas to pass other drivers.
For safety reasons, the trooper stopped trying to pull over the driver. Beforehand, the trooper saw the driver abruptly get off the highway at exit 32B onto Market Street.
State police said the trooper further observed the driver fail to stop at a red traffic signal and stop sign.
The driver got away at that point, but not before state police were able to gather his registration information.
The trooper was able to call the driver, who then admitted to driving the vehicle and engaging in a pursuit.
The driver, identified as Skyers, turned himself in at 2:35 p.m.
Skyers was charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle under suspension, reckless driving, disobeying signal of an officer, passing on the right, failure to maintain proper lane on a limited access highway, making an improper turn/stop signaling, failure to obey traffic control signals, failure to obey stop sign, operating a motor vehicle without a license, interfering with an officer/resisting, and first-degree reckless endangerment.
Skyers was released from custody on a $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear at Hartford Superior Court on Nov. 4.
