A car fitting the description of the Crown Victoria had been spotted at multiple street takeovers including one that shut down the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge on October 19th.
Police attempted to stop the car and Reyes fled the scene. Stop sticks were deployed and the vehicle came to a stop when the right rear tire popped off at the entrance to 91 North.
Reyes then attempted to flee on foot and was apprehended. Two women were also in the Crown Victoria: Maria Laguer, 20, and Ariana Sanchez-Harrison, 20, both also from Wolcott.
Reyes was taken into custody and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
Of the incident, Police Chief Karl Jacobson released the following statement:
We are not going to tolerate this kind of behavior. Street takeovers are extremely dangerous to the public, as well as to participants and we will be continuing our details targeting them. We will be using all available resources, including stop sticks, drones and video surveillance to identify those involved. As a reminder and warning, it is illegal to participate in a street takeover, even as a spectator, and you are risking arrest, having your tires deflated and your vehicle towed if you are involved.
