WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — A New Jersey man is facing several charges after allegedly driving 128 mph while under the influence on Interstate 95 northbound in West Haven, state police said.
Troop G performed a traffic stop on I-95 northbound near Exit 43 around 3:14 a.m. Saturday when they saw a car driving “erratically” and clocked the speed at 128 mph in a 55 mph zone, state police said.
During the traffic stop, Venugopal Puppala, 26, of Newark, told police he was driving at 120 mph to pick up his friend from a nightclub in New Haven. Troopers asked Puppala to perform a sobriety test, which he failed, state police said.
Pappula was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol and reckless driving.
Puppala was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on March 11.
