Man accused of driving over 116 mph on I-84 in the Farmington area

FARMINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — State police say a Plainville man was arrested Thursday after allegedly driving recklessly through through traffic on Interstate 84.

Thomas Eldridge, 33, was charged with reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, operating a motor vehicle without minimum insurance, failure to renew registration, and improper use of registration plates.

The charges stem from about 10:54 p.m. Thursday, when troopers reported seeing a black Infiniti Qx60 cutting between the left and center lanes of I-84 and speeding when there was space to.

When a trooper was positioned behind the Qx60, they clocked it going above 116 mph in a posted 65 mph zone.

The vehicle was pulled over in New Britain, and state police said Eldridge told the trooper he knew he was speeding, but thought he was driving around 90 mph.

He also reportedly told the trooper the vehicle was unregistered, uninsured, and the registration plate on the rear of the vehicle belonged to a previous vehicle he owned. He was taken into custody on scene.

Eldridge was released on a $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on March 3.
