Accused wrong-way driver charged with OUI in Farmington

FARMINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — State police say a Hartford man was arrested for OUI Sunday, after allegedly driving the wrong way on Interstate 84 East.

Troopers were dispatched to a wrong-way activation from the Department of Transportation system in the area of Exit 37 around 2:31 a.m.

They used the system to confirm a dark-colored SUV entered the wrong way and was continuing to travel westbound in the eastbound lanes.

Troopers were able to located the vehicle- a black Volvo XC90- but when they tried to stop it, the driver allegedly struck the trooper’s cruiser and sped past them.

State police say the cruiser sustained minor damage and the trooper was uninjured.

Troopers were later able to stop the vehicle when it exited into Southington, state police said.

The driver initially refused to comply with trooper commands, and state police said he was escorted out of the vehicle and placed under arrest.

During the arrest, he told police he had consumed alcohol prior to driving and was not aware he crashed into a cruiser or drove the way way on the highway.

Luis Adrian Correa-Cabrera, 31, of Hartford was charged with nearly a dozen offenses, including first-degree reckless endangerment, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and driving the wrong way on a limited access highway.
