EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — An East Hartford woman was charged with DUI after an accident on I-84, according to state police.
Police say that Elizabeth Burnham, 35, was not able to stop in time and collided with the rear of the vehicle in front of her. She allegedly had a two-year-old child in her car at the time of the crash.
While speaking to troopers, Burnham observed clear signs of intoxication and admitted to using crack/cocaine before driving. She was arrested and police found suspected fentanyl, crack/cocaine and a glass pipe consistent with the use of crack/cocaine as well as suspected narcotics and paraphernalia in her car.
A family member was contacted to take custody of the child and the Department of Children and Families was advised. Burnham was charged with DUI, failure to drive at a reasonable distance apart, use of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and risk of injury to a minor.
