Police say the driver got out of the vehicle, dragged the victim to the side of the road and then got back into the car and drove off.
A 21-year-old man has been arrested, accused in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a 74-year-old man earlier this month in Hewlett.
Nassau police say Yonatan Cohen, 21, was charged with leaving the scene of an incident.
The incident happened on Wednesday, Dec. 18 just after 10 p.m.
News 12 reported that Jeffrey Frank was crossing Broadway when he was hit by a dark colored SUV.
Police say the driver got out of the vehicle, dragged the victim to the side of the road and then got back into the car and drove off.
Frank was known throughout the Five Towns as “JJ.” He was a longtime volunteer with the Hewlett Fire Department and a beloved DJ who spent many years at Backstage in Woodmere.
